Coming to a close

As today is the last day of classes, i thought today would be a good day for a blog. It hasn’t hit me yet that I am almost done. I still have 3 finals but today is the official last day of classes. The summer is ahead of me and I am looking forward to it. I know I’ll miss seeing my friends around but I know I won’t miss the classes. As much as I have learned, I have not learned in the same way I have at the companies that I have worked for. Of course I don’t regret school and the classes that I took but I loved the experience I gained while working also. I encourage everyone to find part time jobs and work while in school to get this different kind of experiance that I am talking about.

Hello Hello

Hey guys, Kamal again. I feel like I am writing these to myself. Please I welcome comments or suggestions or anything.

But anyways, a lot of people must be excited that the semester is almost over. I walked into one of my classes yesterday and the teacher announced, final presentations are today…I definitely was not ready for that…But it had a good feelings that finals will come soon and hopefully fly by.

Summer is just around the corner and the weather is helping that come faster. For example, the weather today was beautiful. Around 60 degrees, walking around during lunch at work was amazing. Had the pleasure to run to the store for some last minute stuff also which was a nice break during the beautiful day.

Wishing everyone a quick and good month ahead to finish off strong and continue their best.

Living a busy life

I don’t know about a lot of you but I enjoy living a busy life. I work full time Mon-Fri from 9-6 and I take a full load of 18 credits. Although it seems like a crazy schedule, I enjoy it. It keeps me on my toes and forces me to get things done when I have time. I feel when I have too much time, I put off things till the end. Whereas since my time is short as it is, I work on something whenever I have a chance.

So what I recommend everyone is to keep busy. Get involved in either activities or find a job that will be beneficiail for you in the long run.

You feel good when you become busy.

Working Full Time

So recently, I just started full time while taking a full load of credits during night classes. It has been quite an experience, commuting for upstate, NY to the city, than to NJ and than back home, all in one day, going to work, to class, and than home. But with this, I hope to have a good foundation of getting out into the so called “real world” before I even graduate. Working full time has helped me learn the ropes of the corporate world along with the of course gaining the experience.

Take it from a person who has worked for a number of years while in school, I would advise current students to find work just to gain experience while in school. It teaches you a lot about time management, you get the experience, and of course you make some money at the same time.

Honestly, school isn’t everything, it is definitely necessary but working gives such a bigger perspective on life and things to come.

My Advice for Incoming Freshman

So, being at NJIT for a a full 4 years and having experienced a number of activities, I wanted to give incoming freshman some advice. The best advice I can give is, and I’m sure the freshman have heard it, is GET INVOLVED. Try to join activites that sound interesting to you. If there aren’t activities at school that are interesting look outside in your community, or find a job that keeps you up and about and motivated. It beats sitting in your dorm room being bored on the weekends. Leading a busy life is fun and it never gets boring. As much as you say, oh I need a break, you won’t want it after you get used to it. After all, we’re young. Live life to the fullest.

My Final Semester

So this is my last semester at NJIT and its starting to hit me now. I have been ready for the “real world” for a while now. I have been working for the past 6-8 years in many types of positions and I know that I am ready for it. I must say that some classes, as many of you may or may not agree with you, definitely have prepared me well for some of the jobs that I have had. NJIT has done a good job, although of course I don’t have any comparison with other schools, but NJIT has definitely done a good job of laying out course classes that prepare you for real life situations. The one thing I would like to see NJIT do more of is provide more real life hands on experiences.

I look forward to a good final semester and the years to come.

Back from my Study Abroad semester

Hey Guys, Kamal here again talking about my study abroad experiences. So my semester abroad is over. I am back at NJIT for my final semester and hoping to graduate in May. Studying in Sweden was an amazing experience. I learned a lot about cultures outside the US and the school system, and just living in a completely new country. Along with my “studying”, I traveled to 15 countries while in Sweden, when made me realize the European way of life. And from that, I realized how good we have it in the US. I would never consider living anywhere else other than US. I guess we’re so used to living here, that we don’t like it anywhere else. Don’t get me wrong, I loved traveling to every one of the countries I went to but to live, I only like the US. Life is way to laid back in Europe and I am used to a hectic life, living and being from NY. However, I will never trade in my Study abroad and travel experiences with anything in the world. It was a great 5-6 month “vacation” abroad. I would recommend that everyone try to study abroad at least once during their college years. NJIT makes it easy to study abroad, being that you pay NJIT tuition, and your GPA is frozen when you leave and all you have to do is pass your classes.

my journey now…

WOW! I cant believe its already the middle of November…thanksgiving is coming up and before you know it final exams begin. I’m a little excited but yet nervous because this is my last semester. I’m not sure if I should run into the world looking for a job to make money or continue with my education and get a masters. It’s a hard decision to make but all students come to this point in there college career lives. I actually decided today to apply to grad school and the deadline to do so is tomorrow…hopefully I made the right decision.

Well as for the incoming freshman’s, there are many decision you will have to make in your lives as to whats best for you. The important thing to remember is to do what makes you happy. Yes, its wise to get advise from other students like myself but when it boils down to it, you have to make your own choices. Study hard but study smart because you won’t be as stressed out as others and gain as much experience as possible because its not what you know that matters but who you know….Use your contacts. Good luck and next time I post hopefully I’ll be in my first semester in grad school….Freshman student all over again :)

Today is a GREAT day

Hello everyone. This is Alwyn again, since my last blog was pretty short I’ll lengthen this one up for you guys. I was born and raised in Newark NJ, I graduated in the top 10% of my high school and I’m also the youngest of three siblings. I am a pretty active person here at NJIT I am in a numerous amount clubs… some of these are F.S.A (Filipino Student Association), S.H.P.E (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) , The Art Society, and N.S.B.E (National Society of Black Engineers) just to name a few. This semester has been a real crazy one to say the least, partially because I have one more semester here at NJIT and the other is because I am taking ALL of my courses that are the final requirement for graduation. Next semester I only have to take TWO courses which are electives then I am officially done with me Bachelors degree ^_^. Well I will talk to you guys soon … I have to register for my final two courses as an undergraduate student.

Study Abroad experiences

Hey guys,

Kamal here again here to tell you my Study Abroad experiences. Just to refresh your memory, I’m a Senior at NJIT studying IT with a minor in Management. This semester I am studying at a business school in Jonkoping, Sweden. Its been a great experience so far but now I am craving to come back home as I miss my life. It feels as though, my life back home is on standstill waiting for me to come back. Don’t get me wrong that its great here, like everyone tells me, “a four month vacation” but you do miss home at times and for me its starting to kick in overtime. It has been great so far in that, I have met people from all over the world and traveled to many countries in Europe, I think my count is up to 10 countries right now, which has been great, oh, I guess I shouldn’t forget the learning part and studying in a different country too..haha

Studying abroad makes you realize the differences between your life and the one your “temporarily” living in when abroad. For me, its been a wake up call that we at home take so many things for granted. Studying in Europe has shown me that in America, obviously, everything is bigger, we waste more things, and we are supposedly “backwards” in everything we do, (using feet, miles, etc.)

Studying Abroad has been a great experience and I think if anyone is up for the challenge they should definitely look into it and consider it as an option. Its an experience that will never be forgotten.
